Application Deadline:
January 15th

Program Description:
French 305 is a four-week, four-credit, faculty-led, on-site intensive language & culture program. The program includes two parts. The first will take place at Rhodes with five mandatory pre-departure orientation meetings in Spring 2020 (days TBD). The second part will take place in Paris, France, starting on Saturday, May 23 and ending on Saturday, June 20, 2020.

Classes meet Monday through Friday 9am-1pm and twice a week 2-4pm, with one hour break for lunch. Morning classes vary in style and content, focusing mostly on vocabulary building and conversation practice, with some grammar review. One afternoon a week, you will work in the library/lab to perfect your pronunciation. On other afternoons, you will perform specific tasks geared to making you interact with Paris in fun and meaningful ways.

Evenings and weekends may be spent sharing dinner time with your host family, socializing in French with your fellow Institute classmates, and/or exploring one of Europe's most historically rich and culturally vibrant cities. The faculty leader will arrange for one (hopefully two) group excursions, for instance to Reims, its splendid Cathedral and Champagne winery-rich region, a couple of Loire Châteaux, as well as a special farewell dinner in a nice Paris restaurant.

In the first part of the program while still at Rhodes, we will discuss and enact cultural concepts of space and time. Once in Paris, you will be expected to interview a francophone resident of Paris on a topic of interest to you and lead the group on a guided tour of an area or monument of your choice.  Other than that, the Eurocentres Institute will provide you with everything you need for your coursework there. In a very real sense, Paris will be your text. While there, open your eyes, take note of what you see, smell, and hear. Posters, ads, street art, food, and performers, all will have something to teach you.

Program Cost: $5,000 (pending approval)
Cost includes: tuition, a four-week homestay with a French family, half-board (breakfast and dinner), two out of city excursions to sites such as Loire Chateaux or a Champagne winery, museum/event entrance fees, airport shuttle on arrival, opening meeting tea and farewell dinner.
Not included in the program cost: transportation to and from Paris, weekly city transportation pass, obtaining a valid passport, lunches and other personal expenses. Eurocentres suggests budgeting 180 euros/week, roughly the equivalent of $220/week.

Eligibility Requirements:
Minimum GPA 2.5 and good academic and social standing.
