Semester Exchange Programs
SEMESTER EXCHANGE PROGRAMS
WHAT IS AN EXCHANGE PROGRAM?
An exchange program is a specific type of study abroad program in which Rhodes College and a partner university overseas agree to exchange students on a regular basis. Exchange students directly enroll in regular classes alongside full-time local students for a semester or full academic year. Students have access to most courses that the university offers in a wide range of academic disciplines. Exchange programs offer deep immersive experience in the local community of an international university.Rhodes offers two types of exchange programs: Rhodes Bilateral & ISEP. There are differences, so please read carefully.
1. RHODES BILATERAL EXCHANGE
Rhodes has bilateral exchange agreements with institutions in England, France, Germany, Mexico, Peru, Scotland, and Spain. On one of these bilateral exchange programs:- A student pays Rhodes tuition and activity fees, just as in any given semester or academic years. Regular institutional and federal aid applies.
- In most cases, students pay room and board to the host institution (this can be done using any balance remaining in your student account after you pay Rhodes tuition and fees); housing may be in apartments, residence halls, or student-run apartments. Students on bilateral exchange must secure their housing promptly, using the advice of the host institution.
- Credit is treated as transfer credit.
- All students interested in a Rhodes Bilateral Exchange must meet with Dr. Elin Ovrebo. Book an appointment with Dr. Ovrebo HERE

Rhodes is a member of the International Student Exchange Program. On an ISEP Exchange:
- A student pays Rhodes room, board, tuition and activity fees, just as in any given semester or academic year spent at Rhodes. Regular institutional and federal aid applies.
- ISEP exchange placements are available to students in every major and with any language level.
- Students can apply for placement in up to 10 ISEP locations.
- After you submit a complete application, ISEP uses an equitable algorithm system to place the most students as possible at the institutions that are listed the highest on their application. ISEP will place you at one of your selected programs. Then the host institution reviews your application. Once you are approved, you sign your contract and start preparing for your study abroad adventure.
- Housing may be in apartments, homestays, residence halls, or provided via a stipend (all depending on which placement you receive).
- Deadlines are quite early, so plan ahead!
- Credit is treated as transfer credit.
- All students interested in a ISEP Exchange must meet with Dr. Elin Ovrebo. Book an appointment with Dr. Ovrebo HERE
